Peer Edits (Jordan Koplitz & Paul Thompson)

The Voices of Hope was a great event at Eastview High School. It also was the first year of this and from my point of view a lot of students are hoping to do it again. However, I also noticed when I was there that some kids didn’t know what it was for. This event was to raise money for the Angel Foundation. So the money that is raised will help cancer research, and will save lives in the near or distant future. The goal of this event was to raise $25,000, but sadly it didn’t raise that much money. Also you have to admit that the goal they wanted to reach was pretty high. This event did raise a lot of money though. The event raised $15,000 in one day! Even though it not what they hoped for they still raised a lot of money for cancer research and had fun doing it.The Angel Foundation is an important organization. Since 2001, Angel Foundation has become a vital community resource working to fulfill unmet non-medical needs of cancer patients and their families. Angel Foundation provides financial assistance for serious non-medical needs as well as education and support programs to families who have a parent with cancer. The proud sponsor of this event, the Angel Foundation was very happy when they heard the news of how much money they made by doing this great event. If you would like to support this great organization for a good cause, just go to their website.I interviewed a student from Eastview High School who was in the Voices of Hope. He is a 9th grader and he sang a couple songs in the Voices of Hope sing-a-thon. First I asked him how he felt singing in the event. He answered, “I was nervous at first, but then it turned out to be a fun event to be in.” Next I asked him how you got to sing in this event. He said that his class chose to sing in the event. Also in this event some past Eastview students sang in this event and Miss Twin Cities also sang some songs in the sing-a-long. The performers were from a wide range of sorts. There were different languages, teachers sang and students sang. This event was great for everyone who was in it and you could clearly see this if you attended. The Voices of Hope sing-a-thon was to raise money for cancer research and it was very successful. They raised a lot of money and everyone enjoyed it.

APPLE VALLEY - In any given year, about 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer. It's likely that the disease has touched nearly everyone in the nation in some manner. As the campaign to learn about and develop treatments and a cure for the disease marches on, young Americans are looking for new and creative ways to raise money, support and awareness for the cause.Eastview Hannah Skalbeck and her school's vocal music department did just that, sponsoring an all-day singing event held at Eastview that included seasoned musicians, sophomore Spanish classes and everything in between. The event was held to benefit the Skalbeck family, whose mother is currently battling cancer.“We’re just so grateful for all the involvement,” assured Skalbeck on the Wednesday after the event. “It was my idea, but people really just got into it and made it way easier than I thought it’d be.” Among the performers were official choirs from Eastview and other high schools in the metro, Eastview classes (especially from the language department), faculty members, professional performers and even a beauty pageant queen. The event, which lasted from 8:00 am until midnight captivated the ebbing and flowing audience with this wide variety of music.“I thought I’d be embarrassed, but it was cool,” admitted Ty McDevitt, a sophomore who performed a song in Spanish with his class. “Me and Luke [Trepanier, a junior] were pretty amazing.” Cover price for the event was $5, although the opportunity was afforded to all students for free during the school day
